Why You Should Trim Your Wicks Before a Burn
Let me just start off by saying, if you haven’t been trimming your wicks before burning a candle, you aren’t alone. I personally didn’t trim my wicks until a year ago and I’m going to tell you why I wish I’d done it sooner!
Wick trimming does not apply to a brand new candle that has not been lit, so keep that in mind. After you’ve lit your candle and have let it burn for no more than 4 hours, blow it out to cool. BEFORE you re-light your candle again, this is when you want to trim the wick. Keeping a trimmed wick will allow for a cleaner and more even burn for your candle.
Untrimmed wicks can cause uneven burning in candles, mushroom caps (which is carbon build up on your wick from the previous burn), and can produce more soot which is neither good for the environment or you! Even though we use eco wicks and 100 % soy wax, it is still important to trim your wicks before each burn.
We offer matte black wick trimmers so you can easily cut off the top of the wick and re-light your candle with ease. Unlike traditional scissors, our wick trimmers are long and angled so you don’t have to fight with trimming your wicks. We recommend trimming your wicks 1/4 inch before lighting and disposing of the trimmed wick portion in the trash. Please do not let your old wick trimmings stay in the candle when it is re-lit!
Cheers to a clean, even, and long lasting burn.
